| Proximity Sensors |
|
IN series tubular proximity sensors operate by sensing the presence or absence of metal targets. The sensing distances that can be achieved are related to the sensor diameter & the type of metal which is being sensed. Mild steel gives the greatest sensing distances & large diameter sensors have greater sensing distances than small ones. IN series sensors can be either shielded(threaded along the complete length) or unsheilded(threaded along part of the length & having a protruding moulding at the sensing end) Unsheilded sensors can have greater sensing distances than sheilded sensors. Proximity switches should be selected to ensure that the sensing distance is less than the height of the target from any background metal, otherwise the sensor will switch on permantly. The metal target to be sensed can affect the normal sensing distance as follows, Mild steel x 1, Aluminum Foil x 0.9, Brass x 0.5, Copper x 0.4, Cast iron x 1.1, Stainless steel x 0.7, Aluminum x 0.45.
