Magnetic Reluctance Sensors:
Magnetic sensing probes detects the change in an electro-magnetic field which occurs when a ferrous metal changes position with respect to the pole piece of the probe. Mounting the sensor near to a rotating gearwheel or one or more boltheads will produce a signal which can be used by most tachometers. The output signal is highest as the speed is increased.
Inductive Proximity Sensors:
The IN range of d.c 3 wire proximity sensors are produced with a self contained switching amplifier. Most types include an LED which lights when metal is sensed. The output signal is independant of the speed at which the target metal is being sensed.
Optical Sensors:
Optical sensors are retro reflective types & are used with reflective tape or reflective discs. They are most often used with a single pulse per revolution to produce an RPM readout.
